The West Forest Park Art and Culture Centre exemplifies “Landscape Urbanism,” merging architecture with ecology to create a harmonious relationship between the manmade and natural environments. The design respects existing site conditions, using the natural contours to guide the layout and minimize disruption, reducing construction costs and environmental impact. The terraced exhibition halls follow the landscape, while the roof, landscaped with vegetation from the excavated soil, integrates with the surrounding park. This green roof serves as insulation, water retention, and a continuation of historical pathways.
A modular design maximizes passive strategies for daylighting and ventilation, creating flexible spaces while reducing energy use. The building's rooftop breathes, exchanging air to maintain a comfortable, healthy environment for visitors. Blurring the boundaries between natural and built environments, the Centre fosters a reciprocal relationship where architecture and nature coexist, enhancing the ecological and urban fabric of West Forest Park.
